Watling JCB, one of the worlds largest JCB sole franchises, has equipped its service fleet with Masternaut, the web-based telematics service.

Masternaut gives real time visibility of the companys mobile service and parts engineers improving customer service, increasing operating efficiencies and reducing costs. In addition by monitoring the real time position and movement of their mobile engineers Watling JCB has been able to improve the health and safety of its mobile workers.

Watling JCB specialises in the supply and after sales support of both new and used JCB Machinery into the construction, agriculture and industrial industries. Established in 1976 Watling JCB operates throughout the East Midlands, East Anglia, Essex and Oxfordshire from a network of five depots including the companys headquarters in Leicester. A team of 58 fully trained engineers, equipped with diagnostic equipment, mobile computers, hydraulic test equipment and fast response vehicles, provide after sales product support twenty fours hours a day seven days a week.

It is our mission to provide first class sales, service and parts back up to all our customers, all of the time, said Jason King, Financial Director of Watling JCB. Masternaut helps us to make this vision a reality. By monitoring the real time movements of our mobile workforce we can allocate an engineer to a specific customer request based on actual location, we can monitor on-site arrival and departure times improving the accuracy of job reporting and we have an accurate record of vehicle mileage, engineer hours and other activities such as speeding or congestion charge liability.

Masternaut uses satellite positioning (GPS) to establish the location of each of Watling JCBs vehicles; this information is then automatically transmitted via high-speed mobile communication technology (GPRS) to a central server. The real time position of every vehicle, displayed using Microsoft MapPoint online street mapping, can be securely accessed via any web enabled PC or handheld device and minute-by-minute vehicle activity reports are automatically delivered to managers by e-mail. Additional features used by Watling JCB include congestion charge monitoring and individual engineer job reports.
