Sterling Commerce extends leadership position for technology standards in market-leading B2B solution

Sterling Commerce, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc., has announced enhanced capabilities for industry and horizontal standards that promote interoperability, including additional support for Chemical Industry Data Exchange (CIDX), Petroleum Industry Data Exchange (PIDX), Open Applications Group (OAGi) and the Global Upstream Supply Initiative (GUSI).

Standards support will enable its Gentran Integration Suite (GIS) 4.3 customers to automate their implementation of key initiatives across various supply chains, including aerospace, automotive, chemical, consumer packaged goods, high technology and petroleum. The GIS 4.3 release is planned for October 2007.

The Open Applications Group is committed to driving down integration costs by removing the barriers to interoperability in business-to-business (B2B) and application-to-application (A2A) integration across various industries on a global scale, said David Connelly, chief executive officer of Open Applications Group. Solution providers, such as Sterling Commerce, play a key role in enabling this interoperability in supply chains across the globe.

Sterling Commerce was positioned in the Leader quadrant in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Infrastructure for Back-End Application Integration Projects, 2Q07.1 GIS, a multi-enterprise integration platform, provides the interoperability required to adapt IT infrastructure to changing market conditions.  GIS enables companies to reduce the cost, time, risk, and complexity of integration projects spanning internal and external boundaries.  GIS helps companies offload excess inventory, decrease time to market, enter new markets and create new sales channels.  In addition, GIS enables rapid trading partner on-boarding and interoperability on a global scale.

Standards are a critical component of our customers integration strategies because they must have the flexibility to interoperate with all trading partners across various industries and marketplaces," said Chris Johnson, vice president of product management, B2B, for Sterling Commerce.  Sterling Commerce has long been an industry leader in support of the various B2B standards required to enable customers to realise the business and technical benefits of integration between business partners. By supporting a wide variety of standards, GIS enables customers to quickly and efficiently adapt to ever-changing requirements in order to support their businesses.

In order to better support customer requirements to adapt to rapidly changing trading partner, industry, and legislative mandates, Sterling Commerce is committed to actively participate in, monitor, and support industry and horizontal standards bodies to deliver new and updated capabilities including:  expanded support, shortened time-to-market, and reuse across Sterling Commerce solutions.

Fundamental to the Sterling Commerce standards advancement process is the ability to reuse core standards and data translation across various solutions. As the company continues to grow its solution portfolio, the companys standards support will be consistent across all products and services. Standards release schedules will be independent of other product release schedules, accelerating time to market to better support customers. This allows customers to choose the appropriate solution that enables their trading communities. This also further enables a customer to focus on solving key business problems rather than on which technologies are required in order to solve their problems based on standards support. Sterling Commerce standards are built to be used in either a software or hosted environment and by integration and application solutions within the overall product suite.
