A new forum focused on making the most of SAP business software has been created for the upstream oil and gas industry supply chain.
Aberdeen-based SAP software consultancy Absoft has co-ordinated the formation of the group, set up to allow businesses that use the system to share best practice and discuss common supply chain-related issues.
Absoft Operations Director Don Valentine said: The forum is the first of its kind in the region and will be driven by the companies that take part.
Absoft has initiated this in response to requests from our own client base and it was agreed that we would continue to act as a facilitator going forward.
SAP is used by a significant number of energy companies and it was felt that creating an arena for discussion of good practice and topical issues would be useful for all concerned and help businesses to make the most of their software investment.
The first meeting of the forum has already been staged primarily to get input from attendees about their respective business challenges and determine topics for forthcoming sessions and featured a number of key industry operators.
Don Valentine added: The first session was very successful, not least in terms of identifying common issues faced by operators and developing a network for sharing technical solutions.
One of the key themes to emerge centred upon the importance of the topic at present, bearing in mind the high-profile asset integrity projects being undertaken by many operators.
