Strategic planning module creates compact and balanced delivery zones Ideal for wide range of distribution and service operations

In a further move to extend its strategic and tactical planning capabilities, Paragon Software Systems plc (Paragon) has introduced its Territory Optimiser module, designed to support companies who need to divide their delivery or service regions into balanced, compact zones.  Paragon will showcase Territory Optimiser for the first time at the Commercial Vehicle Show, to be held at the NEC, Birmingham on 24-26 April 2007, together with its leading software solutions for routing and scheduling, fleet tracking and resource management.

Flexible planning

Before detailed routes and schedules can be calculated in these types of operation, says software development director, Richard Street, it is necessary for the overall efficiency of the business to divide each region into zones which are both compact and ensure even workloads.

In response, Territory Optimiser provides the ideal flexible planning tool, minimising inter-call travel times and providing each driver with the right level of work each day, at the same time enabling them to become totally familiar with both their area and customer base, he confirms.

As a result, the latest Paragon module is especially well-suited to distribution, service and sales organisations in which individual areas may only need to be visited/serviced perhaps once a week or which include a wide range of call frequencies.  These include, for example, home delivery and wholesale businesses (including associated 3PLs), van sales, workwear rental, washroom and hygiene or similar services, field service organisations and sales territory planning.

Territory Optimiser is fully integrated with Paragons established strategic planning and route  modules for analysing depot networks, defining depot catchment areas, allocating multi-frequency calls to days of the week or month, calculating transport resources and optimising routes and schedules.  Territory Optimiser can also be used as a stand-alone system for effective territory planning.

Critically, it also uses true road-based journey calculations, taking account of motorways and rivers for example to accurately calculate transport workloads and the compactness of each territory especially important for such operations, says Street.

In responding to identified customer needs with Territory Optimiser, Paragon is once again reinforcing its unrivalled reputation as a technology leader in the routing and scheduling market, he believes.
