DHL, a worldwide leader in international express and logistics services, selected the Quintiq real-time advanced planning & scheduling solution to improve its dispatch process and customer service for the European Express business.
The Quintiq software was chosen from a field of approximately 90 solutions. After having developed a proof of concept, Quintiq demonstrated the flexibility of its system. With the Quintiq implementation, DHL EXPRESS Europe will be able to streamline and standardize its dispatch process and activities. Additionally, the solution will reduce the workload of dispatchers and improve their productivity as well as tour efficiency. The Quintiq solution is currently being implemented at DHL EXPRESS in the United Kingdom and is planned to go live in Q3 of 2007.
DHL EXPRESS Europe has a complex dispatch need to organize the pick-up and delivery (PUD) of 1.8 billion shipments annually for clients across the world. This dispatch process includes processing dispatch workload, daily workload allocation, managing daily tours and allocating daily tour resources. To improve the productivity of its PUD, DHL EXPRESS decided to replace the existing heterogeneous landscape of solutions and functionalities with one centralized dispatch solution. The Quintiq software will support DHL EXPRESS in reducing the PUD cost base by increasing the productivity of dispatchers and increasing the productivity of tours through real-time dispatch. Furthermore, the planning and scheduling solution will improve service quality by allowing the automated allocation of bookings to tours and workload exception handling. Thus the number of missed pick-ups will be reduced significantly. Finally a reduction of IT-related costs will be achieved through the use of a common dispatch system and by standardizing on one database.
