Opticon, Japans foremost manufacturer of bar code based scanning technology has developed two new mobile enterprise computing solutions based on PDA / Smartphone hybrid technology.

Traditionally, if a mobile device is required with built-in bar code scanning capabilities, users have been forced to consider large format, chunky products with limited keyboard capabilities. Whilst great for intensive scanning applications, such devices are frequently found wanting when email interaction is called for.

Opticon has taken the bold decision to cater for traditional scanner intensive applications with one product, whilst offering a second device for those that need to communicate more of the written word whilst on the move.

H-19 (pictured) is a PDA/ Smartphone hybrid with a mobile phone-like keypad and a built-in 1D or 2D bar code scan engine. It is constructed to withstand 1.2 metre drops onto concrete and to meet IP-54 environmental protection standards.

H-16 is a PDA / Smartphone hybrid with a slide out QWERTY keyboard and built-in 1D or 2D scan engine. It is a perfect solution for those that need a multifunction device that can act as a mobile business communications tool and a bar code data collector.

Both solutions share the same architecture:

Windows Mobile 5.0 OS, 128MB memory, 2.8 LCD, integral SD slot for expansion and, of course, a choice of Opticon laser or imager scanning technology.

Furthermore, all versions share the same standard connectivity specification:

USB,Bluetooth,WiFi,Edge GPRS and GSM.

As a measure of the companys confidence in the H-16 and H-19, both devices will sell in the UK with a 24-month full manufacturers warranty.
