United Co-operatives has eliminated losses of goods in transit after equipping its distribution fleet with Secureloc, a special security device from Secureseal.
Secureloc is from the Secureseal range of re-usable door seals and provides evidence of unauthorised door openings as well as barrier security. United Co-operatives runs a fleet of 177 vehicles and since fitting the device 3 months ago there have been no thefts from the Secureloc-equipped fleet.
United Co-operatives is largest regional Co-operative Society in the UK with a GBP 2.2 billion turnover and operations in the food, travel, motor, health care and funeral sectors. The Secureloc-equipped vehicles are operated by the Society's Food Group who distribute to around 600 convenience stores and small supermarkets across the Midlands, the north of England and North Wales.
Secureloc is a highly reliable mechanical device that incorporates a unique random security number generator. Fitted to the Society's rigids and trailers, the seal numbers are checked and recorded on all departures and arrivals, providing random number security during the delivery cycle. This protects drivers and ensures goods are loaded and delivered safely, helping to avoid replenishment problems at stores.
United Co-operatives previously used plastic barrier seals but these were not preventing break-ins. Thefts were even being reported on the move with thieves breaking in at traffic lights. Secureloc is a highly robust device and the fact that it is mechanical appealed to United Co-operatives since it eliminated the need for battery power.
"We selected Secureloc because it had the best track record for reliability and we expect the devices to last the life of the vehicles. Since we have not incurred any losses in transit since fitting Secureloc, the device is providing an immediate payback" said Chris Samways, Transport Manager for United Co-operatives.
Secureseal is an Enfield-based company and the Secureseal trailer seal range has become the market leader used by many of the UK's leading retailers. Secureseal also developed a new generation of security and automated monitoring devices using the latest automatic RFID and mobile communications technology.
