Automated data capture and mobile computing specialist, UnIQue ID, has launched a range of new innovative add-on modules for Hand Held Products Dolphin 7900 and 9500 mobile computers.

These include integrated GPS, which is currently unavailable from any handheld terminal manufacturer.  Integrating the GPS within the terminal eliminates the issue of having to connect to and supply power for an external Bluetooth GPS, which is often problematic.  With integrated GPS the user only has one unit to charge and can use the device in-cab for satellite navigation and then take it out of the cab and onto site to provide precise latitude / longitude positioning.  The GPS unit has its own battery power ensuring it doesnt draw power from the Dolphin 7900 or 9500 handheld terminal.  UnIQue ID is offering this as both an onboard solution out of the box with new terminals or as a post sale upgrade.

Managing Director for UnIQue ID, Tony Rainbow, explains: Our experience with linking terminals to Bluetooth GPS devices has been very poor.  The problems associated with two-piece solutions are just too great.  Our new integrated unit offers the best satellite acquisition using the latest chipset and provides our clients with a new level of positioning accuracy and business traceability not seen in rugged terminals before.

In addition to integrated GPS, UnIQue ID has developed a number of other add-on modules for the Dolphin 7900 / 9500 handheld terminals.  These include the provision of a good read vibration alert to confirm a positive read to users in noisy environments.  This has been developed as users were finding it difficult to hear the good read bleep or to see the good read light.  It eliminates the need for the user to wear a headset, which can be restrictive and uncomfortable.

UnIQue ID has also created a powerful integrated torch for the 7900 / 9500s that helps field based workers, such as couriers, to search for parcels or light up a path in the dark.  Previously, users would have to carry a torch and a terminal, as well as one or more parcels.  With an integrated torch the user only has one item to carry and one item to recharge.

The final development has been to create an integrated RFID reader giving the 7900 / 9500s RFID capabilities, in addition to standard 1D and 2D barcode reading and imaging.

All of these new add-ons are available now and can be included at the time of purchase or as post sale upgrades enabling businesses to purchase the technology they need for their current application, safe in the knowledge that they can add the new modules in the future.

Future plans include integrating impact sensors into the 7900 / 9500s to monitor any abusive handling.

Roel Vreeburg, Hand Held Products' Senior VP for International Sales and Marketing, says: UnIQue ID is leading the field in developing these new modules for our successful Dolphin 7900 / 9500 terminals.  This is resulting in the creation of new applications for the devices and clearly demonstrates the expertise and added value that they can bring to an end user.
