Global manufacturer and SYSPRO user, The Doncasters Group has been shortlisted in the 2006 Best of British Manufacturing IT Awards.
The Doncasters Group is a leading international manufacturer supplying precision components and assemblies to the aerospace, power generation, speciality automotive and medical orthopaedic industries. It employs 4,300 people at 25 sites across Europe, the USA and Mexico and this nomination is in recognition of its outstanding use of information technology for manufacturing and business management.
The Best of British Manufacturing IT Awards recognise the very best IT strategies and implementations in British manufacturing industry. The 2006 Awards are about promoting the critical business value of IT, across functions and departments, in underpinning and enabling superior business processes, competitiveness and profitability. The Awards are judged by a senior independent panel including consultants, analysts, practitioners and operations directors, and the winners will be announced at The Best of British Manufacturing IT Conference at Haydock Park on 26th September 2006.
In the biggest ever SYSPRO deal for K3 Business Technology (initially worth over 2.5 million), Doncasters implemented the new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in support of a global strategy to standardise systems and processes across its 25 companies.
The first phase of the project included thirteen companies and following a detailed process mapping and blueprinting exercise in each company, the first eleven sites went live inside a year and the benefits are flowing through the business. Implementing the SYSPRO system against a standard set of processes, delivered an estimated 30 to 40 percent saving in implementation time and cost for each site. Doncasters is now rolling the system out to other sites in the group.
Paul Williams, business development director at K3 says: We are delighted The Doncasters Group has been recognised in this way. They have shown what can be achieved by implementing a software solution in conjunction with effective business and manufacturing processes.
