VC5090 Mobile Computer Extends Real-Time Data Capture to Forklifts

Symbol Technologies, Inc., The Enterprise Mobility Company, today introduced the VC5090 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer which combines rugged construction, high performance processing and wireless networking to enable real-time data access and collection on forklifts used in the harshest environments. From the warehouse floor to the loading dock and the freezer, the new VC5090 mobile computer can help warehouse workers increase productivity and reduce errors in receiving, tracking, put-away, picking, scanning and shipping.

With industrial and military grade specifications for vibration, shock, temperature and sealing, the new VC5090 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer can endure repetitive pounding from forklift operations and provide maximum durability in subzero temperatures. The VC5090 mobile computer also offers a high-resolution touchscreen that enables data input with gloved hands and is easy to read even in the most poorly lit environments.

The Symbol VC5090 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer is equipped with the functionality to streamline supply chain management with real-time processing and up-to-the-minute information that improves decision-making and customer satisfaction. Offering seamless connectivity to virtually any wireless LAN via 802.11a/b/g, wireless scanning and printing through Bluetooth, support for voice-picking and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) via a push-to-talk handset, the VC5090 mobile computer enables real-time access to people and business-critical information. In addition, the VC5090 is RFID-ready and can easily be integrated into future Symbol forklift and vehicle-mounted RFID reader solutions.

Symbol's VC5090 vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer showcases the diversity of Windows CE-based devices, and their ability to enable reliable access to business-critical information wherever and whenever people need it most - even in an unfavorable computing environment like a loading dock forklift, said Jane Gilson, Director, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, Microsoft Corp. "Symbol's implementation of Windows CE across a broad range of product categories enables them to quickly create new devices that address specific market needs, or easily add new and innovative features and functionalities to existing device designs, and get them to market ahead of the competition."
