Dubai Duty Free, the worlds third largest airport retailer in terms of turnover, is enhancing its IT systems with the help of IT and business services company Enabler, in an ambitious bid for continued growth.

Enabler will initially design, and implement a new warehouse management system based on Oracle Retail Warehouse Management System, to drive allocation and replenishment from a new warehouse that will serve Dubai Duty Frees retail outlets in Concourse 1 and Terminals 1 and 2, and the additional 15,000 sq mts of retail space in Concourses 2 and 3, and Terminal 3

Enabler was also chosen by Dubai Duty Free to design the processes that will be required to manage the new warehouse (almost 27.000 sqm), provide training and ensure that the change from existing to new systems and processes is managed to guarantee a smooth transition to the new system and mitigate the risks. This will happen early 2007.

Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free explained, For Dubai Duty Free, the new warehouse is essential to support the growth in business and expansion of retail areas that will result from the opening of Concourses 2 and Terminal 3 in early 2007, and Concourse 3 in 2008. We chose Enabler as they have the experience with Oracle Retail technology in general and with warehouse management system implementations in particular.

Ramesh Cidambi, Director of Logistics and IT for Dubai Duty Free added, Looking at Enablers work with several leading retailers and wholesalers in Europe showed us that we can depend on Enabler not only to do put systems in place and also help us strategically on change management and training. They can also assist us with the improvements to the business processes in merchandising and related areas that is planned for the near-term future, after the successful opening of the new warehouse

Jorge Brs, COO and head of Enablers South of Europe operation, added, The Dubai Duty Free win shows that retailers look to Enabler not just to build systems, but to provide strategic support to ensure that the job gets done. If Dubai Duty Free wants to grow and improve their performance, using the technology from Oracle Retail and our consultancy expertise, then they can rest assured that we will do our best to help them get there.

The Oracle warehouse management system will use full radio frequency devices to enable real time stock tracking and also features labour and task management for improved efficiency and response.

Enabler will interface the Oracle warehouse management system with Dubai Duty Frees existing Oracle e-business and merchandise management environment - a Web-enabled, integrated suite of applications. This system will also be integrated with an automated warehouse and tote system. This will enable Dubai Duty Free to analyse stock levels in real time, improve store allocation and cut supply chain costs.
