Handheld Europe AB is now launching the TDS Recon XL for the European markets.

The XL version has 128 MB Ram and a built in flash disc of 256 MB and is especially geared towards users which has memory demanding applications such as different type of mapping and GIS users.

The Recon is designed for all-day operation in extreme outdoor and industrial environments. It meets MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperature extremes. It also has an IP67 rating, meaning it's impervious to water and dust. The Recon's rugged construction makes it ideal for public safety, field service, utility, military and other outdoor or service-related applications. Large, widely spaced buttons are easy to use, and its reflective color TFT display is bright and clear in sunlight.

The Recon comes with a 200 or 400MHz Intel XScale processor, up to 128 MB of SDRAM and up to 256 MB of internal nonvolatile Flash storage. It also features two CompactFlash slots, plus a standard 9-pin serial port and a high-speed USB port for connecting to a PC. The standard PowerBoot Module features a 15-hour rechargeable NiMH battery. An optional Extended CF-Cap provides room for large CompactFlash cards such as GPS, WLAN, GPRS, RFID, Barcode and more.

The new Recon XL will provide users of mapping and GIS applications the memory and disc space required to do the job right in the field. We see a clear trend in that users are requiring more and more memory for their applications, says Thomas Lfblad, Director of Handheld Europe.
