Two recent reports by independent research firms confirm that Oracle Transportation Management expands Oracles supply chain footprint and delivers enhanced functionality for transportation and logistics business processes.
Oracle has been cited as the main contender for the overall leader in The Forrester Wave: Transportation Management Solutions (TMS), Q1 2006 by Forrester Research, while Aberdeen Groups Market Alert: Oracle Transportation Management Announced: Ambitions Remain High calls the solution a leading Tier 1 transportation management system.
The TMS Forrester Wave report was published in February 2006 and found Oracle Transportation Management to be a leader in functionality and among the top ranked in current offering and strategy. The solution also scored well in market presence, which took into consideration the immediate benefits gained from the G-Log acquisition by Oracle. The report evaluated six vendors that offer on-premise transportation solutions as their primary offering and covers multiple transportations modes, including ground, ocean, air and parcel. Forrester analysed user needs and developed a set of 200 criteria. Data for the report was collected through vendor surveys, product demonstrations and interviews with vendor customers.
According to the Forrester Wave Vendor Summary, Oracles G-Log emerges from the TMS Forrester Wave as a strong overall force to contend with. G-Logs offerings are functionally expansive and solid, posting competitive rankings across ground, ocean, parcel and air transportation criteria. Additionally, the vendors strong market presence, owing to its acquisition by Oracle, and strategy moving forward uniquely position it to have a more well-rounded presence than competitors that are more apt to be leaders based almost solely on current offering. Forrester predicts that Oracles G-Log will appeal to the user clamor for full functionality and vendor longevity.
Strong Capabilities for Global Transportation Environments
Aberdeen Market Alert credits Oracle with giving the G-Log solution, now called Oracle Transportation Management, the technical, development and sales attention it requires to continue being a leading Tier 1 transportation management system. Aberdeen also cites, G-Log brought with it strong capabilities for handling basic and very complex domestic and international transportation environments.
According to Aberdeen, Oracle Transportation Management strengths include optimisation and execution of multi-modal, multi-leg shipments and cross-docking operations; automated workflow for repeatable tasks such as tendering and load building; and visibility and event resolution capabilities for inbound and outbound shipments. The research firm suggests Oracle Transportation Management be considered by various types of enterprises, such as current Oracle Applications customers with more than $20 million in freight spend and non-Oracle users seeking a robust solution for domestic or international transportation and with multiple lines of business.
