ILOG have announced the latest version of its market-leading optimization software, ILOG CPLEX 10. With new industry-first features, ILOG CPLEX 10 is designed to help businesses find answers to their most difficult problems, including meeting demands for complex planning and scheduling with speed and accuracy. New breakthrough features include a "Conflict Refiner" debugging tool, which can quickly find and correct inaccuracies in any mathematical model and a "Solution Polishing" algorithm that provides a range of alternatives for solving the most difficult business operations problems. Other enhancements include significant performance improvements that deliver solutions 35% faster - 70% faster on particularly complex models, giving organizations more time for "what-if" analysis and scenario comparison.
Also announced today was ILOG OPL Development Studio(tm) 4.2, the latest release of ILOG's integrated development environment for optimization model design and deployment. The new OPL Development Studio offers new performance enhancements to support the new ILOG CPLEX 10 release and interfaces with the Conflict Refiner to simplify model debugging.
Advanced Model Debugging and Problem Solving Features
CPLEX 10 features several major breakthroughs. For example, the new "Conflict Refiner" is the first and only debugging tool that focuses on helping businesses rapidly find the inaccuracies that block problem resolution in optimization models, including extremely-complex Mixed Integer Programming models. Once Conflict Refiner defines the error, the model can be easily changed and the problem quickly resolved.
Another new feature is driven by a class of business problems requiring complex mathematical models that involve large amounts of data and thousands of constraints that have always been both difficult and slow to resolve. The new "Solution Polishing" algorithm, an evolutionary algorithm based on the concepts of natural selection in genetics, creates a pool of possible alternatives representing the best, or better, solutions to help businesses more quickly and accurately resolve complex planning and scheduling problems.
Major performance enhancements in ILOG CPLEX 10, promise to cut, on average, problem resolution time in half - helping businesses to improve the bottom line. In one example, supply chain planners who are forecasting complex product production and distribution volumes to meet buyers' demands and prevent revenue loss from overproduction can run 20 scenarios in two hours, instead of the usual 10. This ability to create more scenarios more quickly enables companies to evaluate all angles, improving accuracy and increasing revenue opportunities.
