GAZ plans two-year RFID technology expansion across network of vehicle processing factories
Symbol Technologies, Inc., The Enterprise Mobility Company and IBM today announced that Avtogaz (GAZ), Russia, one of the largest Russian automotive manufacturers and a member of the RusPromAuto Holding, has successfully completed its first RFID project and intends to roll-out RFID technology across additional facilities in the RusPromAuto Holding company.
With RFID and Wi-Fi technology, GAZ can achieve just-in time service which will help GAZ achieve faster production times and a higher quality product. GAZs investment in RFID technology is crucial to optimizing the automation of its vehicle assembling and inventory processes. Previously, GAZs manufacturing processes relied on extensive manual data entry at the different stages of the assembly line. GAZs expansion plans depend on its ability to provide customers with high quality, cost effective, state-of-the-art vehicles for personal and professional use.
Another part of GAZs growth strategy is to expand its operations across both domestic and international markets. By streamlining its factory floor operations with RFID, GAZ will be able to manage and interpret the flow of information during its manufacturing processes - enabling them to better compete with automobile manufacturers around the world. Using state-of-the-art technologies in the automotive industry today is a critical success factor to sustaining a competitive edge, said Helen Smirnova, the head of Open Joint-Stock Company "GAZ" IT department. RFID allows GAZ to resolve factory floor issues with expediency so hastening the vehicle assembly process and the delivery times for our customers.
