Hand Held Products, the world's leading supplier of image-based data capture systems, has won a contract with Swedish Post for 120 Dolphin(r) 9550 mobile computers and 120 IT4800 2D imagers. The units are being used to process packages delivered by the company.
Swedish Post has become a world leader for its service quality and delivery performance. The organisation recently started looking at automated data capture devices, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of its service still further.
The company looked at devices from various manufacturers, and chose two models: the Dolphin(r) 9550 and the IT4800, both developed by Hand Held Products and supplied by Optidev, an independent hardware supplier. Christian Lundin, Optidev's Key Account Manager, says: "Swedish Post particularly liked the ergonomics and high performance of these units."
The postal service subsequently bought 120 Dolphin(r) 9550s and 120 IT4800s. Both units are powered by Hand Held Products' AdaptusTM Imaging Technology. The postal company is also using Optidev's Service Web Solution.
The Dolphins are packed with advanced technology and provide a fast and intuitive bar code reading performance. They are used by Swedish Post to register packages and to scan their barcode labels, which contain details such as size, weight and sender. The data are sent online to the host computer. The IT4800s boast an aggressive, omni-directional reading performance with impressive depths of field. They are being used to register boxes for Swedish Post's package sorting machine.
Christian Lundin continues: "Swedish Post likes the fact that the devices can be used online with the host system. The company is very happy with both models, as they have been performing very well and have already boosted the efficiency of its operations."
