EXEL CONSOLIDATES SUPPLIER DELIVERIES FOR ROCHES STORES IN IRELAND

Exel, the global leader in supply chain management, has been awarded a logistics contract to design and implement a new central distribution solution for Roches Stores - Ireland's leading department store group. The contract is Exel's first with this retailer.

Until recently each of Roches Stores' 11 retail outlets across Ireland has accepted deliveries directly from approximately 400 suppliers - based mainly in Ireland and the UK. Under the new logistics model, suppliers will now deliver merchandise to Exel's shared-user consolidation centre near Dublin Airport, from where the logistics specialist will pick and pack orders according to store requirements and make one daily consolidated delivery to every outlet.

Central distribution improves control of the inbound supply chain and reduces traffic congestion - as numerous deliveries from multiple suppliers are replaced by one timed delivery each day from Exel.

"The new logistics model has been designed to support our growth agenda and is already generating many benefits, including improved supplier management and better visibility of our inbound inventory", says Conor McDaid, Group Purchasing and Services Manager of Roches Stores. "Timed deliveries of consolidated orders at each outlet bring efficiencies to the store's operations."

Michael O'Donoghue, Exel's Managing Director in Ireland, added, "Although the central distribution process is invisible to the end-consumer, a key driver for change was Roches Stores' continuous focus on its marketplace and on meeting the fast changing needs of customers. The new inbound logistics model ensures that the right products are available in-store when and where they are required, and we are delighted to be working with Roches Stores to help them deliver real value for their customers."
