A UNIQUE RFID SOLUTION THAT USES DOLPHINS FROM HAND HELD PRODUCTS

High Wycombe-based UnIQue ID, the automated data capture solutions specialist, has adapted two of Hand Held Products' Dolphin(r) mobile computers to incorporate RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) capabilities.

RFID is an emerging technology that opens up a wide array of potential applications. One of the main advantages it offers is that it doesn't depend on 'line of sight' - an RFID tag can be read even when it can't be seen.

UnIQue ID has now integrated Low (125MHz) and High Frequency (13.56MHz) RFID readers into two mobile computer models from Hand Held Products: the Dolphin(r) 7900 and the Dolphin(r) 9500. Both models retain their standard features, which include Bluetooth(tm) enablement, WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) capabilities, and Adaptus(tm) Imaging Technology from Hand Held Products.

Tony Rainbow, Managing Director of UnIQue ID, comments: "The Dolphins are already extremely versatile, high performance units. However, because they can now read all common RFID tag standards, they have an extra edge. They represent one of the few rugged, fully featured, portable options for RFID users."

The adapted units are considered by many as best in their class for low or high frequency applications that demand portability. Examples range from parking solutions in London through to inventory checking on oil rigs.

Roel Vreeburg, Hand Held Products' Senior VP for International Sales, Marketing and Services, says: "Although imaging is our core area of competence, we are also keen to offer RFID capabilities. We are therefore delighted that UnIQue ID has integrated this technology into two of our latest Dolphin models."
