CarrierNetOnline a new pay-as-you-go way to buy IT for the transport sector

CarrierNetOnline, a pay-as-you-go service offering collaboration and unparalleled customer service to the transport sector, was launched last week.

The service is being used by a range of transport companies, including pallet, parcel and car transport operations.

CarrierNetOnline is not just a web front end for order entry and PoD. It is a comprehensive system, tracking a consignment through all stages from collection to consignee, and alerting users of any exceptions along the way. The system provides company wide visibility, across depots and sub-contractors, including KPIs and problem alerts. Routing and scheduling is available to support planners, and drivers are able to PoD online using a mobile phone or PDA. A comprehensive billing facility with ratecards is a standard feature.

Customers and consignees can use the web to log and track their transport requirements, see where the consignment is, and when it is likely to be delivered.

Previously, this kind of comprehensive solution was available only by cobbling together many different systems. Now it is available as one online solution.

No capital expenditure is required. Charging is on a per transaction basis and starts for as little as 5p per transaction. All that a company needs is a PC and a web connection. Moreover, getting sub-contractors or new depots using the online system is remarkably simple.

David West, CarrierNetOnlines Business Development Director, comments: This represents a unique service which does not require any capital expenditure or IT expertise. Its partly about IT peace of mind. The web service is hosted at Rackspace, which has more security, backup power and fireproof facilities than any transport operation can afford.
