PARAGON SOFTWARE PROVIDES FAST PAYBACK FOR STAPLETONS TYRE SERVICES

Stapletons Tyre Services, the national distributor of over 70,000 tyres a week, is using Paragons routing and scheduling software to streamline its distribution operation. Delivering to over 8,000 UK customers, Stapletons needed a routing and scheduling solution capable of handling a dynamic distribution operation involving fluctuating order volumes, customer delivery preferences and a mixture of same day and next day delivery requests. As a result of replacing its map and pin planning system with Paragon software, Stapletons has been able to make significant savings throughout its operation, recovering its initial investment in less than six months.

Stapletons delivers over 70,000 tyres a week to a range of retail outlets, wholesalers, dealerships and national accounts throughout the length and breadth of the UK. Stapletons is part of the Japanese Itochu Corporation, one of the worlds largest corporations comprising more than 670 companies in over 80 countries. With over 8,000 customers and numerous distribution centres, Stapletons needed a routing and scheduling solution capable of handling the scale and variability of its operation. Having looked at a number of different routing and scheduling systems STS opted for Paragon. We were impressed with the range of software options and capabilities provided by the Paragon system, comments Ian Kirkpatrick, Head of Supply Chain at Stapletons. Several members of the STS team had experience of using the Paragon software in previous roles and were very positive about the route quality and ease of use. This made our choice an easy one.

Paragons routing and scheduling software is now being used to build routes twice a day, with Stapletons offering both a same day and next day delivery service. Taking order information from the Stapletons host system Tyreman the Paragon software is used to plan two schedules, one at 7pm for next morning delivery and another at 12-noon for delivery later that day. As a result Stapletons can automatically plan routes and schedules that meet customer delivery preferences at the same time as maintaining fleet efficiency.

Customer service is key to our operation and Paragons routing and scheduling software has enabled us to maintain customer service at the same time as running a more efficient transport operation, comments Ian Kirkpatrick of Stapletons. We have been delighted by how quickly the software has resulted in significant savings throughout our national distribution operation, enabling us to recover our initial investment in just a matter of months.
