EPCglobal certifies first standards-compliant hardware

EPCglobal Inc, the not-for-profit organisation entrusted with driving the commercial adoption of the Electronic Product Code (EPC) in global supply chains and a part of GS1, today awarded the first EPCglobal Certification Marks to seven solution providers, ensuring their products comply with EPCglobal technical standards.

The Marks, awarded during this weeks 2005 EPCglobal US Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center, certify that the hardware products have been tested and will work according to the EPCglobal UHF Generation 2 Air Interface Protocol Standard ratified in December 2004.

We want to enable companies that are implementing EPCglobal Standards in their businesses to have easy access to unbiased, objective and reliable information about EPC hardware, said Chris Adcock, president of EPCglobal Inc. This way, companies will be able to focus on their business at hand better and have confidence in the products they select for EPC implementations.

Testing for Certification Marks is conducted by MET Laboratories, a third-party, globally-recognised testing facility. The following solution providers have completed the testing process and received Certification Marks for the following products:

The EPCglobal Hardware Certification Mark is designed to assure purchasing companies that EPCglobal-certified products have been rigorously tested against EPCglobal Standards. The Mark, a stylised form of the EPCglobal logo, includes an 18-digit Global Service Relation Number (GSRN) that is unique to that product and the exact testing suite it completed. Companies that purchase EPCglobal-certified hardware can use the GSRN number to learn more about the specific tests and the results of their hardware.

The EPCglobal Hardware Certification Programme tests RFID silicon chips, readers, reader modules, and printer/encoders with embedded reader modules.
