ANWB choose Consafe Logistics for multi-site installation

Consafe Logistics has received a new order for a multi-site SattStore WMS system from ANWB and Telstar.

ANWB is the leading Touring association in the Netherlands with 4,1 million members. ANWB handles road service, signposting, traffic information, public affairs and legal assistance for members, Medical Air assistance and all activities concerning travelling for business, holidays or recreation.

Telstar Trading develops, produces and distributes consumer related products. ANWB is their most important customer. Together with ANWB Telstar is developing ANWB related products like the Human Nature clothing line.

The two distribution centres take care of input, x-dock and output of charts, books, guides and special products within their own organisation. The DCs deliver goods to more than one hundred of their own shops and about 150 shops throughout Europe. Orders are created automatically online by the shops using their Point of Sales application. The DCs also use online WMS charts with some external customers.

At the "CBG" site or ANWB-DC they handle country charts, books and guides. The "CBG" DC is situated in Voorschoten and has an area of 3.500 m2, with about 6.500 locations (shelf and conventional racking). 700.000 order lines are picked in one year (1,5 million charts, books and guides) packed in 10.000 roll containers. The ANWB DC also takes care of the distribution of value documents like theatre vouchers or hotel vouchers.

The "Special Products" site or Telstar-DC delivers ANWB's own clothing line (Human Nature) and travel related consumer products (snow chains, warning triangles, tow cables etc). The "special products" DC is situated in Harderwijk and consists of multiple stores with about 5.000 pallet locations. The range changes every season.

The project consists of a SattStore WMS for the two sites. The pre-phase was successfully concluded with an approval on the functional description, after which the contract for the whole project was signed on 1 June. Both warehouses will be run remotely from a central server located at the head office in The Hague.
Both sites will be operational on 31 October.

To choose the right partner, ANWB made a careful market analysis by successively writing out a Request for Information and a Request for Proposal. In this stage a number of items were reviewed that were needed for successful cooperation in the project:

- Does the WMS fit the demands and wishes of ANWB
- The stability and professionalism of the contracted organization
- ICT technical issues
- Service and maintenance and price of support
- The solution

Consafe Logistics was chosen from a long list of 15 suppliers and a short list of three suppliers. During the selection period ANWB got to know Consafe Logistics as a professional organization with the appropriate expertise and with attention to the customer. Consafe Logistics constructed the project team together with the customer to create a solid team with real customer confidence.

ANWB / Telstar objectives in investing in SattStore:

- Enlarge load factor of buffer
- Reduce picking errors by better article and location administration
- Speed up inbound
- Reduce errors by upgraded interfaces to host systems

The SattStore solution offers adequate functionality to fulfill the wishes and demands of ANWB. It will enhance warehouse activities by better buffer management, the possibility to replace paper with terminals, and the integration of value added processes (goods labelling, communication to transporters).
