Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL), The Enterprise Mobility Company, today introduced new speech-recognition enabled versions of its MC9000 series of mobile computers. Designed for warehouse and distribution customers that require hands-free operation for speech-recognition and voice-prompted applications, the MC9060-K and MC9060-S models deliver increased productivity and real-time data capture capabilities for enterprise mobility systems.
The Symbol MC9060 with speech-recognition combines Symbols rugged hardware with partner software and accessories to offer increased productivity in industrial applications including distribution center order picking, receiving, replenishment, loading, maintenance, repair, package sorting and handling, returns processing and inspection. Symbols new speech-recognition solution offers customers a multi-function device to support multiple data capture functions including voice-recognition, barcode scanning, imaging and keyboard input, providing flexibility to use whichever data capture technology is most efficient to perform the task at hand.
Symbols new voice-directed MC9060 mobile computing solution enables customers in warehouse environments to operate faster and more accurately by eliminating the need to manually enter data or read instructions, said Chester Chet Pribonic, vice president and general manager of mobile computing, Symbol Technologies. The new MC9060 further demonstrates Symbols ability to meet the growing needs of its customers with targeted industry solutions that increase worker productivity and improve operational efficiencies.
Warehouse workers benefit from increased mobility as they move from task to task listening to instructions through a headset and communicating verbally with an existing enterprise resource planning system (ERP) or warehouse management system (WMS) over a wireless network. Connection via the ERP or WMS also provides real-time views into speech-directed application data and operator activities for data reconciliation, updating and management. Using standard Symbol devices reduces the total-cost-of-ownership of voice-directed solutions by enabling multiple workers to share a single device.
"MCL-Collection provides enterprise customers with multimodal access to such data capture technologies as barcode scanners, touch screens, keyboards, signature capture, imagers, radio frequency identification, displays, printers, and voice recognition," said Jean-Francois Jacques, Managing Director, MCL Technologies. "Voice recognition naturally lends itself to data capture, allowing operators to parallel-task and make real-time decisions. Our relationship with Symbol Technologies allows customers to experience increased productivity and data capture speed with a reliable voice technology solution for the mobile workforce."
Based on Symbols flagship mobile computer platform, the MC9060 with voice-directed functionality offers flexibility and reliability to organizations with integrated bar code scanning and local 802.11b wireless connectivity along with a drop specification of six feet to concrete.
Symbol's Global Services Division offers a complete suite of services designed to meet the support requirements of mobile products in the enterprise. Services developed to meet the specific needs of the MC9060 mobile computer include Service Center Support - Bronze and Service from the Start Bronze, which delivers seamless coverage, defined telephone technical support and three-day turnaround time for product repair to help customers derive value from their investment.
The MC9060 with speech-recognition technology is currently available to order around the world from Symbol partners including IBM Corporation, Lucas Systems, Inc., MCL Technologies, Systems Application Engineering (SAE) and Voxware, Inc.
