JOHN ALLAN RECEIVES COMMANDER, ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE (CBE) FROM THE QUEEN

John Allan, Chief Executive of Exel plc, has received the Commander, Order of the British Empire (CBE) today from The Queen at an official Buckingham Palace ceremony. The accolade recognises John's contribution to the freight industry in a career spanning over 20 years.

John Allan said, "Today is a very special day and it's a great privilege to receive this award on a personal level, on behalf of Exel, the Freight Transport Association, and the industry as a whole."

John was appointed Chief Executive of Exel, formerly Ocean Group, in September 1994. John started his business career in marketing with Lever Brothers, moving to Bristol-Myers Company Limited and Fine Fare Limited. He joined BET plc in 1985 and was appointed to the Board in 1987, with specific responsibilities as Director of Business Services (Europe) and Group Marketing Director. He is a member of the CBI's Presidents' Committee, the International Advisory Committee of the Singapore Economic Development Board and the University of Edinburgh Campaign Board. He is also President of the Freight Transport Association and Vice Chairman of Freight Forwarding International.
