AquiTec Selected By Gordons Chemists To Future-Proof Warehouse Management

AquiTec, a leading provider of supply chain execution software, has been selected by Gordons Chemists of Northern Ireland to provide warehouse management (WMS) and procurement solutions for its centralised distribution centre in Banbridge, Co. Down, that services 40 stores across the province.  AquiTecs supply chain execution solutions will enable Gordons Chemists to deliver increased productivity and accuracy in the warehouse as well as provide the information required to react more quickly to market trends.

Having outgrown its legacy WMS solution, Gordons Chemists conducted a 12-month appraisal of the market and selected AquiTec in October 2003.  AquiTec stood out as it was able to provide an integrated suite of applications that were user-friendly and could enhance its current warehouse operations, as well as scale up to meet future needs, such as radio frequency and multi-site capabilities.

We were impressed with the comprehensive functionality across AquiTecs application suite, and the fact that it could meet our needs today and well into the future, commented John Clark, General Manager of Gordons Chemists.  Seeing the system working at an existing customer, Musgrave in Northern Ireland, also gave us the confidence that AquiTec could deliver on its promises and be a long-term partner for us.

By linking AquiTecs WMS and procurement applications with its EPOS systems, Gordons Chemists will increase its competitive position by reacting more quickly to market trends through increased visibility of stock holdings and fast and slow selling products. Auto-putaway and let-down functionality will also help to increase productivity and accuracy in the warehouse.

Having visibility across the retail supply chain and into the warehouse is crucial in todays competitive market, explained Frank Arico, CEO of AquiTec. By running a more efficient operation and responding more quickly to customer requirements will help Gordons compete more effectively against the big high street brands.

The implementation in the Gordons Chemists 58,000 square foot distribution centre started at the beginning of 2004 and AquiTecs WMS went live on the 19th July.  AquiTec eProcurement is due to go live in February 2005.  Gordons also has plans to extend its warehouse by another 13,000 sq foot in 2005 as part of its business expansion plans and to supply its growing number of pharmacies and new health and beauty stores.
