NISA-TODAYS AND EXEL OPEN THE DOORS TO NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTRE AND 146 NEW JOBS, IN HARLOW, ESSEX

Exel, the global leader in supply chain management, has officially opened its 80,000 sq ft distribution centre (DC) which it will operate for Nisa-Todays, the UKs largest buying consortium for independent retail and wholesales companies. Creating 146 jobs in Harlow, Essex, Exel will support Nisa-Todays nationwide roll-out of its first-class, six-days-a-week delivery (Premier) service, from the new-temperature controlled facility.

The contract, initially announced in July 2004, builds upon the two companies existing 15-year relationship and from the DC, Exel will manage Nisa- Todays UK supply, transport and distribution network. The new DC and Premier Service will help it to reach 10-15% per annum growth in business and compete with larger, multiple retailers. Managed by Exel, the service provides delivery of over 3,000 chilled and frozen product lines to around 3,500 stores across Southern England.

Stephen Hunter, Managing Director of Logistics at Nisa-Todays, said: We regard this contract as one of the key factors in the future success of the convenience sector. This new warehouse allows us to drive this area of our business and provide our members with the tools to maximise the  opportunity.

Simon Payne, Business Director at Exel, said: The new site reflects how we have been able to work together to take this significant step in evolving Nisa Today's supply chain strategy. We are thrilled to be a part of this new site at Harlow, as a platform for continued, successful growth and the opportunity to create employment."
