Today at its Connect 2004 user conference, PeopleSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: PSFT) and JDA Software Group Inc. (Nasdaq: JDAS) announced an alliance to develop and market a solution for retailers that will provide integration between PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management applications and the JDA Portfolio Merchandise Management solution. This integration will provide retailers visibility to critical operations data, including financial information, merchandising data, point of sale transactions, and inventory, enabling them to monitor revenue fluctuations and merchandise changes throughout the enterprise in real time.
The JDA Portfolio Merchandising solution delivers comprehensive transaction capabilities that enable retailers to closely manage their inventory from order management, to inventory tracking, to floor displays, to point-of-sale returns, and returns to suppliers. Integration of JDAs merchandising solution with PeopleSofts Financial Management application provides retailers with a comprehensive view of store profitability across all departments. This holistic view of retail and financial information includes merchandise movement, labor costs, individual store performance, and real estate management. Unlike competitive solutions, customers will have the flexibility to upgrade discrete portions of the joint solution without it affecting other applications.
"The relationship between JDA and PeopleSoft exemplifies what Guitar Center expects from its strategic partners, which is to work together to provide the best retail solutions," said Mark Laughlin, Guitar Centers executive vice president and chief information officer. "The standard interfaces should provide joint JDA and PeopleSoft clients with a number of benefits including a shortened implementation timeframe and cost savings."
The PeopleSoft and JDA alliance will address a significant market need for retail applications that deliver industry-leading merchandising and financial functionality in an integrated, shared framework based on open technology standards. PeopleSoft has also selected JDA as its Industry Software Partner for the retail industry as part of PeopleSofts Global Partner Connection Program. Both companies will collaborate on strategy, product development, marketing, and sales activities.
"The alliance between JDA and PeopleSoft will enable us to provide our retail customers with significant integration cost savings and efficiency gains," said Hamish Brewer, president and CEO, JDA Software. "Together we can provide a clear and convincing alternative to other monolithic industry offerings that are cost prohibitive and complex to implement, integrate, and upgrade."
"The ever-changing patterns in consumer behaviour require that retailers have instant access to store and inventory data in order to maintain a competitive edge," said Bill Hewitt, group vice president, Global Industry Solutions, PeopleSoft. "This alliance gives retailers an integrated and tested best-in-class solution, providing a real-time view of profitability across the enterprise."
