Atos Origin, an international IT services company, has been awarded an 18 month contract by Terra Nitrogen (U.K.) Limited, a leading UK manufacturer of nitrogen products, to upgrade the site-wide production information systems at its manufacturing plant at Billingham, in the North East of England. Terra Nitrogen also supplies utilities to other chemical manufacturers on the same site.
Under the contract, Atos Origin will replace 10 plant systems and a central management system with the latest industrial software products, configured and integrated to support Terra's drive for greater efficiency and to further improve customer service levels. To satisfy the increasingly competitive environment, the new solution will be highly scalable and flexible to easily accommodate changes in the future. Atos Origin will provide support for the system for 5 years.
Hugo Bell, project manager and leader of Terra's procurement activity for this project, explained the rationale: "We need a system based on tried and trusted technology which delivers all of the current benefits and more, whilst subjecting the business to absolute minimum risk. We were impressed by Atos Origin's technical solution and project approach and, following a rigorous tender and supplier evaluation, we have every confidence they can deliver what we need."
