JDA Software Group announced that UK-based home improvements retailer GlynWebb Limited is implementing several JDA Portfolio space and category management applications to help review its product range of approximately 8,000 core lines to maximise sales.
Using JDAs solutions to more effectively and consistently plan floor and shelf space in its stores, GlynWebb will be able to address its issue of overstocking poorly selling products on the shelves.
Given that ninety per cent of our sales come from half of our entire product range, we need to make sure that we know which products are our most popular and give them the right amount of space, explained Mark Hobson, head of merchandising at GlynWebb.
At present product performance is not adequately reflected in our shelf and floor planning. JDAs category management solution will give us the ability to review performance and optimise our varied product ranges. JDAs space planning applications will then enable us to allocate appropriate space to better selling lines and position them in prime locations within our stores. added Hobson. Further more it will provide our retail staff with far more accurate and better presented line plans enabling them to improve merchandising standards throughout the store.
The JDA project, which goes live in August, is part of the retailers nationwide refurbishment programme that includes improving the look and feel of its retail interiors.
To support this initiative, GlynWebb has successfully implemented Hot Spots, prominent areas within a store that feature a large quantity of a certain product to draw customers in and around the store and create excitement about their products.
Although we are still learning and perfecting techniques, particularly within new concept stores, we are seeing significant sales increases, stated Hobson. JDAs technology supports our Hot Spots merchandising strategy by enabling swifter and more accurate matching of store layouts and product profiles maximising space performance.
