Delete yes but from your language
There are few words more disheartening after you have presented an idea than your manager or director starting their sentence with yes but. The implication is that for all your work the person you are speaking to has already found an alternative and will run through it next.
Next time you hear a new idea start off with some good questions like thats great how did you come up with this idea? or Could you summarise that idea for me on one page, its a great idea and I want to make sure I understand it fully
Thaw out the ice man
Some managers think that it is professional to act in a cool and detached manner. When selling your idea to the board or your team act in a warm and enthusiastic manner. You have a much better chance of success if you are passionate and demonstrate it.
Dont take yourself too seriously
Sales people understand that often the best way to win support is to be a little self depreciating. We often make the mistake as managers and leaders of being a touch too earnest. Loosen that collar and relax!
Be in the room
Enthusiastic people give the room their full attention. Make sure you stay focused on what you are listening to or presenting.
