Bluetooth 'Zapper' from Barcoding.co.uk adds barcode scanning to PDA's
30 October 2006
Barcoding.co.uk has come up with an innovative solution that allows barcode data capture to be added to standard PDA's and other mobile devices.
The 'Zapper' is a handy device with simple one button operation that eliminates the need for special barcode readers. It will allow barcode data capture systems to be extended to anyone with a Bluetooth equipped PDA, laptop or mobile phone. The Zapper measures just 4.5 by 9.0 centimetres and provides a simple scan and send solution that can be used within 10 metres of a connected mobile device. When out of Bluetooth range the scanner can store captured data in it's own 32KB memory for transmission once connection is re-established. The device is manufactured in Japan by Opticon, the device accepts standard AAA alkaline batteries. The device ships with T-Scan, Opticon's own utility program that manages the placement of scanned data on Bluetooth equipped PDA's (Windows Mobile) or Blackberry solutions. "The Zapper opens up tremendous opportunities for anyone wanting to extend barcode capture. Bundled packages offered by the main airtime providers can make mobile devices such as the BlackBerry and PDA style solutions a very cost effective investment. The Zapper provides a simple method of automating data collection using these devices" says Derek Stainton, Managing Director of Barcoding.co.uk. The Zapper is one of an extensive range of barcode scanners, printers and handheld computers available from Barcoding.co.uk. Based in Barnard Castle, County Durham, the company was established in 1996 and previously known as Castle Auto ID.
